Room 5 Little Monsters

Room 5 read a story called The Monster's Party by Joy Cowley.

The children had fun making symmetrical patterns with paint and then using their creative thinking to turn the pattern into a monster.

Can you work out who is hiding
 behind the monster masks?

The 3 Bears

In measurement the children have been learning to compare and order the capacity of containers.

The children were asked to explore a variety of bowls, cups and bags and match them to the characters in the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

The children predicted how much rice filled the bowls and cups, and how many cubes filled the bags.

They quickly discovered that shapes can make a difference, even though they thought an object looked small.

Happy Mathematicians

Problem.
5 teddy bears went for a picnic in the forest. They couldn't all sit at one picnic table, so they had to use two.How many sat at each table?

These little learners worked together
to make patterns of 5.

Can you see how many bears sat at each table?
Read the patterns.
e.g.  0 + 5 = 5

Mathematicians at work.

Look at these mathematicians creating, recording and sharing their addition number stories to 5.

The children worked with a partner. One student created a  pattern for 5 using equipment and then explained how many animals were in each paddock, while the other student recorded what was observed and heard.

Congratulations Bessie and Jesse

Way to go Bessie and Jessie!
Congratulations on the effort you have put into practising your maths skills on the computer.

You certainly deserve your platinum
award received from Studyladder.

Oh my goodness Lewie!

Look what Lewie wrote this morning before school mostly by himself. What a clever little writer. Mrs Drake was so pleased to hear Lewie stretching out tricky words and writing the sounds he could hear in the correct order. He only asked for help with the word meet.
