Jelly on a Plate

This week the children have been learning to recite the poem, Jelly on a Plate.

For Fun Day Friday they made some jelly. They thought it was funny observing it wobble as they recited the poem.

Statistics

Today the learners  in Room 5 had to produce a pictograph to solve how many animals Farmer Joe had in his paddocks?

They worked with a partner. Here are their results.

The children had to explain.........

How many animals were in each paddock?
Which paddock had the most animals?
Which paddock had the least number of animals?
How many animals were on Farmer Joe's farm?

Who am I?

I have 6 spindly legs,
four ears and two eyes,
I search for food,
with great big antennae.
During the day I hide away,
but stay awake all night.
When people see me,
they get a fright.

Who am I?

Meet Oli and Liam

Oli and Liam started school this week. Look at how they are participating in their new learning environment. I love their 'can do' attitude.

Here are the boys learning to write their name using correct letter formation.

Here are the boys doing statistics. They are making a pictograph to work out,how many boys and girls want to play on the little fort at playtime?

Liam and Oli have been very busy in their first two days at school.

Over several weeks the children completed observational drawings of the nikau palm. They used pencils, charcoal and vivid and dye.

They look spectacular!

A morepork visits the classroom

Molly found a morepork lying in the gutter on her way to school. Molly knew the morepork was dead but she thought we would like to see it,as we had learnt earlier in the term that moreporks prey on wetas.

During oral language we discussed..............

Room 5 thought Skylah, Orla and Lily's first idea could have happened, because the morepork was not squashed or bleeding.

We asked Molly what happened. She told us that her dad thought the morepork got hit by a car while it was preying on a mouse.

Look at those sharp claws. We now think the morepork swooped down to pick up the mouse with it's sharp claws, but was too slow getting away from the car.

What a great group of thinkers in Room 5.

Today's maths whizzes

These clever children showed me how they could make patterns for the number 5.

They could even write a number story to match their tens frame.
Super mathematicians!

Writing

These writers are learning to use a capital letter to start their ideas and to finish with a full stop.
