Our new writers

Look at these  pieces of writing of learners who have only been at school for 2-3 weeks.

These authors are multistructural learners when it comes to looking for many words around the room without the teacher's help.

Did you notice all the words underlined green that they could read and find in the classroom. Mrs Drake is so proud of you all.

Our new friends

Meet our new friends.

This is Piwi the Kiwi......

and this is Ella the Elephant.

Ella and Piwi came to visit Room 5 and enjoyed it so much they decided to stay.Unfortunetly they got very lonely when the children went home.

Ella and Piwi solved the problem by packing their bags and inviting themselves to stay for sleepovers.

Each night some children take their new friends home. They record Piwi and Ella's adventures in a book and share it with their classmates the next day.

Sam starts school.

Check out what Sam got up to during his first week at school.

This is Sam forming the letter h
correctly during printing.

Here is Sam's writing. He was able to find
the words highlighted green all by himself.

Sam made an Eskimo and a hat to help
him learn the sound for the letter e.

Look at Sam displaying beautiful
mat manners at the end of the day.

Cross Country

The rain stopped! Time for the annual cross country race.

The 5 year old boys lined up eager to start.

"Run all the way around the field and follow the cones," said Mr Wood."Take your mark, get set, GO!"

Time for the 5 year old girls. They listened carefully to Mr Wood's instructions, thinking that's a long way!

Mrs Drake, the Mums and the Dads were so pleased to see all the children participating on the day.

Jesse proved to be the fastest 5 year old boy...........

Bessie was the first girl to cross the finish line in Room 5 and second overall in the girl's 5 year old race.

Congratulations everyone on
your tremendous effort.

Drawing on the active board

On Fun Day Friday Room 5 completed literacy and numeracy activities for the letter O.

One of the activities involved using the activeboard to create an ocean scene.
They learnt how to......

  •  insert a picture.
  • make the picture bigger or smaller
  • change the orientation of the picture
  • use the shape tool to create rocks
  • change the colour and thickness of the drawing pen.

Look at how clever these little learners where at using the activeboard.

Room 5 did themselves proud presenting for the very first time at assembly. Our theme was ANZAC.

The children recited a poem called Five Little Soldiers.

Then Lewie read out the story he wrote in class.
' A long time ago the soldiers went to war far away. The soldiers died in the war.'

After that the children shared their paintings of Flanders Field.
